Shine a Light and Teenage History Club takeover!

Hello! I’m Lauren and am the Curatorial Assistant at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse. I’m going to tell you a bit more about how we displayed the items that Thetford Teenage History Club chose.

First we had to empty the case. We managed to choose one with lots and lots of objects in! Here I am carefully packing the objects into boxes to be safely stored.

Acid free tissue wodges are used to protect the objects in the box.

Only halfway through!

Only halfway through!

And finally the case was empty and we could start to install the items in the case.

But the biggest challenge was to put the largest item on top of the case! And yes it is the marmite (love it or hate it?!) armchair! How on earth were we going to get it all the way up there?!

And here is the finished exhibition. If you’re visiting Gressenhall make sure you head upstairs to the Collections Gallery and see the items that the Teenage History Club chose and read the labels to find out why.
